SCENE I: Grace's Apartment/Will's Apartment

(T e scene cuts between t e two apartments; WILL is watc ing TV and talking to GRACE on t e p one.)

WILL: W at are you doing?

GRACE: Hanging out.

WILL: Come over.

GRACE: Will, I can't.

WILL: Come on, Grace. You know you want to.

GRACE: Of course I want to, but--

WILL: It's going to be a good one. I can feel it.

GRACE: It's always good. Still--

WILL: You're not going to come over, you want me to, u ... talk you t roug it?

GRACE: It's tempting, but I t ink I'll watc ER ere.

WILL: Anot er nig t alone wit my clicker.

GRACE: O , is t at w at t e kids are calling it? So, I went back to t e sale today.

WILL: Yea . Did you get t at black, flowy t ing?

GRACE: No, you were rig t. It's too "Stevie Nicks: T e Heavy Years."

WILL: Eriq La Salle just **iled.

GRACE: Really?

WILL: No. Did you buy anyt ing?

GRACE: Yea . I got a great camisole.

WILL: Yea ? Sexy?

DANNY: [WALKING BY] I'm going to sleep.

GRACE: Ask me in t e morning.

WILL: Was t at Danny?

GRACE: Yea . Jealous?

WILL: Hu ! Honey, I don't need your man. I got George Clooney.

SCENE II: Will's Apartment

(WILL is playing poker wit JACK, ROB, and JURGEN)

WILL: It's to you, Jack.

JACK: Give me a minute? Please? Ok? [SINGING] A room wit out windows. A room wit out doors...

WILL: [ANNOYED] It's to you, Jack.

JACK: Give me a minute, please. Wow! [SINGING] A room w ere no guy but I can spy--[HUMMING] Nooo, not going to risk it t is time. 4 cards, please. [EVERYONE SIGHS] Here's my ace. [SHOWS HIS CARD.]

WILL: Jack, now t at you're moving in, can I make one **all request?

JACK: W at's t at?

WILL: C ange everyt ing about your personality.

JACK: Ha a! I get it. Comedy...

ROB: [TO WILL] You didn't tell me Jack was moving in wit you.

WILL: Not moving in. He's just staying wit me till is apartment's finis ed.

JURGEN: [HUMMING] Hmm- mm- mm- mm.

JACK: O , I know t at one! I know-- U , [SINGING] Did e need a stronger and--

WILL: Yea . Jack. He's not umming your intro, ok? T at's just a straig t guy's way of t inking t at you and I could ever be a couple.

JACK: [TO JURGEN] Ok, first of all, Will s ould only be so lucky, ok? So let's just clear t at rig t up. Second of all, you don't even know me t at well. W y would you just assume t at I was gay? [EVERYONE LAUGHS] Are you finis ed? Ok. FYI, folks, most people t at meet me do not know t at I am gay.

WILL: Jack, blind and deaf people know you're gay. Dead people know you're gay.

JURGEN: Can we play poker?

WILL: Yes. Come on, w o's in?

ROB: Yes.

JACK: I'm in for 10.

GRACE: [ENTERING] I'm fine.

WILL: Grace?

GRACE: You keep playing.

JACK: O , look, it's Sporty Spice.

WILL: Did you and Danny ave a fig t?

GRACE: Yea , but I-- I don't want to talk about it rig t now. I can't even t ink straig t.

WILL: T at's funny. Neit er can Jack.

JACK: Grace, did you know I was gay w en you met me?

GRACE: My dog knew.

SCENE III: Will's Apartment

(WILL and GRACE are picking up after t e poker game.)

GRACE: Some fabrics never came in, and I wasn't able to make t e presentation. Diamond Interiors got t e job.

WILL: O , I'm sorry. W at a disappointment.

GRACE: T ank you! See? T at's all I wanted to ear, but Danny said, "Well, w en you put everyt ing off till t e last minute..."

WILL: Oo .

GRACE: Yea . And I lost it. I started screaming, "W y can't you just let me ave my feelings?"

WILL: Grace, t at is so Barbara DeAngelis "Making Love Work."

GRACE: I know. Wasn't it?

WILL: Yea .

GRACE: And t en e says-- Get t is-- "You don't ave to get ysterical. You sound just like your mot er."

WILL: If you were on "Jerry Springer," t at's t e minute you jump out of your c air.

GRACE: Yea . Can you believe t at?

WILL: Hmm. You're staying ere tonig t. Go was your face. I'll make up your bed.

GRACE: [SIGHS] "You sound just like your mot er." W at kind of a person says t at?

[GRACE EXITS TO THE BATHROOM]

WILL: A person you s ould've dumped a year ago.

GRACE: [OFF-SCREEN] W at?

WILL: I said I ear t ey're re-releasing Vertigo.

[A KNOCK ON THE DOOR.]

GRACE: [OFF-SCREEN] "You sound just like your mot er." W en you want pus someone's buttons, t at'll do it.

JACK: [ENTERING, CARRYING GUAPO'S BIRDCAGE AND HIS LUGGAGE] Hey, roomie!

WILL: O ! Jack, you can't move in tonig t.

JACK: W at?

WILL: Grace is very upset. I told er s e could stay ere tonig t. You can move in tomorrow.

JACK: Ok, t at's interesting. You t ink maybe you could've told me t is-- O , I don't know-- Before I packed up my entire life?!

WILL: You don't understand. Grace as ad a really-- W at's in t e at box, your tiara?

JACK: [MOCKING LAUGHTER] A - a a a. [TO THE BIRDCAGE] Look, Guapo, e made a funny. S ut up, Will! I just sc lepped all t e way over ere from t e East Side, and you know ow muc Guapo ates riding in taxis!

WILL: Ok. Ok. Take it easy, Jack. You sound just like your mot er.

JACK: [HORRIFIED GASP] Crossing t e line! Ok, you nasty, tter, lonely, balding man. I don't need t is crap from you, Will. You know w at? I just don't need it. [EXITING] W at time tomorrow?

WILL: 8:00-is .

JACK: [EXITING] Fine.

SCENE IV: Will's Office

(WILL is aving a meeting wit is client, HARLIN.)

HARLIN: You're my lawyer. You tell me. W at ave I got to do to buy t is company?

WILL: Well, first you've got to get somet ing called a Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust clearance and t en we can negotiate standstills and lockups. Naturally, t at's after we do due diligence.

HARLIN: W at t e ell is doo-doo diligence?

WILL: No, Harlin, after we do due diligence.

HARLIN: Doesn't matter ow slow you say it, Will. It's still doo-doo, isn't it? I just want to know w at it means.

WILL: It's just crap t at lawyers deal wit . Harlin, I'll andle it. I've been representing your corporation for 5 years now, remember?

HARLIN: I know, but my wife's been bugging me about t e business lately. S e wants me to be a little more ands-on.

WILL: You sure s e's talking about t e business?

HARLIN: [LAUGHS] Yea , s e's talking about t e business. But I trust you, Will, so you do t at doodoo... T at you do so well. [HARLIN EXITS]

WILL'S ASSISTANT (OVER THE INTERCOM): [BUZZ] Will, it's Grace on line one.

WILL: Hey.

GRACE: Can I stay at your apartment again tonig t?

WILL: Of course. As long as you want. W at are you doing?

GRACE: I'm looking for tissues.

WILL: Have your assistant get t em for you.

GRACE: S e's late again.

WILL: [SCOFFS] O ! Fire er already.

GRACE: I'm not going to fire Karen. Her social contacts keep my business afloat.

WILL: W y does s e even work? I mean, isn't s e wort , like, a gazillion dollars?

GRACE: S e feels working keeps er down to eart .

KAREN: [ENTERING] I know. I'm late. My driver ad anot er bronc ial incident. It was disgusting. I ad to raise t e partition. But t at's no excuse. I s ould be punis ed. I'm writing you a c eck.

WILL [OVER SPEAKERPHONE]: Karen, tell Grace s e s ould fire you.

KAREN: Grace, tell Will to redirect is anger at is mot er w ere it belongs. W oops.

GRACE: [TO WILL] Call me later.

WILL [OVER SPEAKERPHONE]: Bye. [GRACE HANGS UP THE PHONE.]

KAREN: All rig t, oney, ere you go. Guilt, be gone!

GRACE: Karen, I don't want a c eck. I want assistance. I'm t e boss. I give you c ecks.

KAREN: Yes, you do, oney, and I love t em. I do. You know, I keep t em all rig t ere in t is box. So, w at else?

GRACE: [SIGHS] Danny and I got into a fig t.

KAREN: O , oney, call im and make up.

GRACE: W y would I do t at? It wasn't my fault.

KAREN: Well, in t e long run, it doesn't matter.

GRACE: I don't know t at t ere's going to be a long run.

KAREN: U ...Grace? You're... You're w at, 40?

GRACE: I'll be 31 next mont .

KAREN: So I rounded up. [BEAT] Honey, Danny is a good catc . You've been living toget er for a year. Close t e deal already.

[THE TELEPHONE RINGS]

KAREN: I'm serious, Grace. Pick up t e pace.

[RING...]

GRACE: I'm serious, Karen. Pick up t e p one.

[RING...]

KAREN: O ! [KAREN PICKS UP THE PHONE] Grace Adler Designs...

SCENE V: Will's Apartment

(WILL, GRACE, ROB, and ELLEN are finis ing up dinner.)

ELLEN: So, Will, ave you seen Mic ael since you two broke up?

WILL: U --

GRACE: No, e asn't, but I ave. Mic ael's not doing well. He got fat, e's depressed, c eap aircuts, not good. Actually it's really sad.

ROB: W at are you talking about? I just saw im. He looks great.

GRACE: U , Rob...you're di**issed.

WILL: T anks for trying, sweetie.

GRACE: His aircut really was awful.

WILL: I know. You know w at? I t ink it's time for $25,000 Pyramid.

ROB: Hello!

ELLEN: All rig t. So, Will, are you going to keep t e place?

WILL: Well, I t oug t it was going to be a little too expensive, so I told Jack--

[KNOCK ON DOOR]

WILL: O , no.

JACK: [ENTERING, CARRYING HIS LUGGAGE AND GUAPO'S BIRDCAGE] Hi, oney, I'm ome. O , are we entertaining? [TO ROB AND ELLEN] Welcome!

WILL: Jack, I meant to call you, but I--

JACK: Don't even--!

GRACE: Wait, wait. I can stay at Rob and Ellen's tonig t.

JACK: No, you can't, Grace, because, apparently, you matter. How about t at?

WILL: Jack, I am so sorry. I-- Are bandannas back in? 'Cause I didn't get t at memo.

JACK: [SING-SONG] Ha, a- a. Ha, a, a, a. Let me tell you somet ing, Will Truman, ok? I don't need to live ere, all rig t? And you know w at? Guess w o loses. Hello, you do, because I could've turned you into a uman being instead of t is rude, self-absorbed, getting c unkier every day-- Oops, did t at slip out-- T ing t at you are. [BEAT] W at time tomorrow?

WILL: 8:00-is .

JACK: Fine. [JACK EXITS.]

WILL: Let's play t e pyramid!

ELLEN: Ok. You two first.

GRACE: Ok. You give, I'll receive.

WILL: Just as God intended it.

ROB: Ellen's timing. Here's your first subject.

WILL: All rig t.

ROB: Go.

WILL: Ok, ok. U ... [READING THE CARD] O , driftwood. U ...Jo n Wayne. Your parents' marriage.

GRACE: T ings t at are dead.

WILL: Yes. U ...my one nig t stand on Fire Island.

GRACE: Latin t ings!

WILL: Good. U ... T e postcard I sent you from Italy. U , "Everybody Hurts" by R.E.M.

GRACE: O ! T ings t at make you cry!

WILL: Yes. Um...Professor Gopnick's teet --

GRACE: T ings t at are yellow!

WILL: Yes. And, u ...a cane. U , u , a railing.

GRACE: Hu ? No, come on, give me anot er clue!

WILL: U ...eac ot er.

GRACE: T ings t at you lean on!

WILL: T at's it!

GRACE: Yea !

ELLEN: You guys. T at was amazing, Grace. You and Danny never do t is well w en we play.

GRACE: I know. I'm going to break up wit im. [SIGHS] It's just time. Our relations ip as reac ed a fork in t e road, and...ending it wit Danny is t e rig t...prong. Excuse me. [GRACE EXITS TO THE BATHROOM.]

WILL: U ... t ings t at bring a dinner party to a cras ing alt?

SCENE VI: Will's Office

(GRACE is talking to WILL on t e p one.)

WILL: So, ow did it go?

GRACE: Not like I t oug t.

WILL: O , Gracie, I'm sorry, but, you know, you give it some time--

GRACE: No, Will. He proposed.

SCENE VII: Grace's Office

(A DELIVERY MAN arrives wit flowers.)

DELIVERY GUY: Grace Adler Design?

KAREN: O , my God, would you look at t at? Now, w o in t e world would be sending-- O , carnations. T ey must be for you. O , yup, t ey're from Danny. O , well, isn't e a sweet eart? U -- [READING THE CARD] O , my. Well. I'm surprised you're still walking.

GRACE: Give me t at. [READING THE CARD, LAUGHING] O , e is so great. I can't believe I ever doubted e was t e one.

SCENE VIII: Will's Apartment

(WILL and JACK are aving dinner.)

WILL: Bon appetit. So, w at am I going to do about Grace?

JACK: W at's t e g deal? W y don't you... Can I get a skos more gravy? [MAKES A CHOKING NOISE] It's a little dry. You don't like Danny, I mean, just tell er it's a bad idea.

WILL: I don't tell people w o to marry.

JACK: Ok, you always tell me w at you t ink of t e men I date.

WILL: I'm talking about marriage, not Rudy, t e Jewis cowboy you met on t e Internet.

JACK: S alom, my lonesome prairie dog. [BEAT] Look, s e's your best friend, Will. You ave to tell er w at you t ink. Be onest.

WILL: I can't. Before my brot er married Ginny, e asked me w at I onestly t oug t of er. Well, I told im. S e's morose and controlling and icy. Well, t ey got married anyway. Now s e ates me, and my brot er and I don't talk. Couldn't andle losing Grace like t at.

JACK: Hmm. You know, I'm going to call Rudy again. [BEAT] O , God, I'm sorry. But more importantly, it's terrible about you and your brot er. It's awful. It's-- [JACK STOPS WILL FROM POURING HIM WINE] No, no, no, do you ave any mineral water? Sulfites.

WILL: So, w en are you moving in?

JACK: Well, I'm going to be away on business for a w ile, and, u --

WILL: Wit w at-- a! W at business?

JACK: Business. I ave business. And clients. And work-related...business.

WILL: How is t e work-related client business t ese days?

JACK: W at is t is? W y do you ave to be so mean?

WILL: Because you love it, and I love you, and-- and you love gel. And you ave a ome ere w en you get back.

JACK: You see? You can be a very great guy w en you want to be.

WILL: Well, I got to be nicer to you.

JACK: Yes, you do.

WILL: Because you are a good friend.

JACK: Yes, I am.

JACK: Will, don't.

SCENE IX: Will's Apartment

(WILL is watc ing TV as GRACE enters.)

GRACE: Hi.

WILL: Hey.

GRACE: W at are you watc ing?

WILL: Pop Up Video. Turns out Fiona Apple doesn't particularly like apples. Apple Brown Betty was invented by a guy named Darren, and get t is: Bobby Darin's dog was named Fiona. You get--w at are t e odds of t at?

GRACE: I said "yes."

WILL: W at?

GRACE: I said "yes."

WILL: O , my God. O , my God! Come ere!

GRACE: Aa ! [WILL AND GRACE HUG]

WILL: Wow, let's ave a look at t at ring. O , it's beautiful. W en is t e stone being put in?

GRACE: I knew you were going to say t at.

WILL: Well, t is... You know, I'm--I'm t irsty.

SCENE X: Grace's Office

(KAREN is on t e p one.)

GRACE: O , it's a little late for t at.

WILL: No, I'm ere, Grace. I'm ere to support your marriage.

GRACE: T ere is no marriage.

WILL: W at?

GRACE: T ere is no marriage. And you want to know w y? Because my best friend-- t at would be t e part you're supposed to play-- my best friend dropped a bomb of... poo on my ead!

KAREN: Ew. Honey, um... no...

GRACE: I mean, I was fine! I was getting married and t en you come along. You come, and you poison wit t e... t e t orns from t e-- t e flower... [CRYING] You know, I ad t is metap or worked out earlier, but I'm just very upset rig t now.

SCENE XI: Will's Office

(WILL is at is desk as GRACE enters.)

GRACE: Will, I am--I am so sorry for w at I said back t ere.

[GRACE'S VEIL GETS CAUGHT IN THE DOOR, SNAPPING HER HEAD BACK. WILL UNCATCHES IT FOR HER.]

WILL: I know. It was mean, but... I know.

GRACE: T is morning, on t e way to t e ceremony, Danny looked at me and said, "I can't wait to spend t e rest of my life wit you," and I turned to im and said... "you know, t e limo as a p one." It wasn't rig t. He was a **art, attractive man w o loved me... And w o I loved, by t e way. W y wasn't it rig t?

WILL: Sweetie, remember in college, we saw t at Frenc film about a man and a woman t at were perfect for one anot er, but t ey kept missing eac ot er, and in t e last scene, t ey meet on a plane, because t at's t e way it was destined to be, remember? And you said, "T at's going to be me." Gracie, you're just in t e middle of your movie. Danny was a plot point, a nice, decent, postcoital- ig -5-ing plot point. T ere's still time, you know. Go get some Raisinets.

GRACE: I like Red Vines.

WILL: W atever you want. T e point is, it's not over. If your movie's going to ave a appy ending, you just ave to see it t roug . Come ere.

GRACE: U -u .

WILL: [KISSING HER FOREHEAD] Mwa ! W at do you say we go get a drink?

GRACE: Yes!

WILL: W at is wit t at dress?

GRACE: O , give me a break. I ad 5 minutes to prepare for t is.

SCENE XII: A Bar

(WILL and GRACE are drinking. T ere are lots of patrons present.)

PATRON #1: [TO WILL] I want you to make a toast to your lovely new bride!

CROWD: [CHEERING] Yea ! Yay!

WILL: Here's to t e ball and c ain. If s e makes it t roug t e nig t, ba- ng! I t ink I'll keep er!

GRACE: Wait...my turn. To my Will: You are my ero and my soul mate, and I'm a better woman for loving you.

CROWD: Aww...

PATRON #1: Hey, ey, ey, come on, you two, ow's about a kiss?

CROWD: O , yea ! Yea ! [CHANTING] Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!
